Total funding

Company disclosure · 18 Sep 2026

Donor-funded (University of Michigan, OpenAI, Amazon, Red Hat, Offline Holdings, Lobster Computer Company per the Foundation's own donor list), not a disclosed grant or funding total. No dollar figure is published anywhere; recorded null rather than estimated, matching eleutherai's precedent for the same donor-funded-nonprofit shape.

Valuation

Checked — none published

No valuation to record -- the OpenClaw Foundation is a non-profit, not equity-owned, matching eleutherai's record.

Employees

Checked — none published

Checked openclaw.ai and openclaw.org for a self-published headcount; neither states one. Recorded null rather than a round guess.

Founded

Company disclosure · 18 Sep 2026

The OpenClaw Foundation's own launch announcement is dated "Jul 8, 2026". This is the FOUNDATION's launch date, not when Peter Steinberger's underlying open-source project began -- community testimonials on openclaw.ai describe the project itself as roughly six months old as of September 2026, i.e. predating the Foundation. Recorded as 2026 because this record is of the Foundation, the entity being admitted, not the earlier informal project.

Description

Company disclosure · 18 Sep 2026

OpenClaw's own site (openclaw.ai, read 2026-09-18): "OpenClaw is stewarded by the OpenClaw Foundation, an independent US 501(c)(3) non-profit. The Foundation employs the core team, signs every release, and keeps the whole product MIT licensed. There is no enterprise edition and no paid version." On donors: "The Foundation is funded by donors, including the University of Michigan, OpenAI, Amazon, Red Hat, Offline Holdings, and Lobster Computer Company... They do not own, control, or direct the project, and no lab's model is privileged in the code."
